2004
After the CD edition of the memorable concert by Adam Makowicz and Leszek Możdżer at New York’s Carnegie Hall, we now have a TV recording of another event – a recital by both pianists at the Wroclaw Philharmonic in November 2004. In the first part American standards, in the second jazz arrangements of Chopin’s works.
The two artists are separated by at least one generation. When Adam Makowicz played his grand recital at Carnegie Hall in June 1977, Leszek Możdżer was just beginning his adventure with music. Two different generations, but also a common tradition of European Romanticism with Chopin at the forefront, as well as jazz keyboard masters from Art Tatum to Herbie Hancock and Polish jazz with the enduring legend of Krzysztof Komeda.
It is an extraordinary experience to be able to listen and at the same time follow on screen this „duel” between the two artists, each of whom, after all, is in a class of his own. Someone familiar with the Carnegie Hall recording will be surprised by a slightly different, seemingly more interesting performance.
