The Kromer Festival Biecz Culture of the First Republic of Poland will be held under the motto Covenant, which symbolically refers to what unites – in contrast to the times in which divisions are openly drawn. The starting point for these reflections will be the historic Polish-Lithuanian alliance, sealed by the Act of the Union of Lublin, which has lasted for more than two centuries. This was a period not only of the development of the Republic, but also of extraordinary changes in music, to which the KFB pays tribute every year on the last weekend of July. In this way, the Festival will show the evolution of music and the many bridges that show the Polish and European heritage as a continuum, testifying to the vitality and respect for the past, but telling it in a language that is contemporary and rich in expression.

Melodies for the Polish Psalter by Mikołaj Gomółka, printed in Kraków in 1580, is a volume of four-part arrangements of the Old Testament Book of Psalms translated by Jan Kochanowski. Gomółka’s polyphonic style is adapted to the publisher’s target group, described by the author in the dedication to Bishop Piotr Myszkowski: „They are made latent / Simple people are not employed. / Not for Italians, for Poles / For our simple houses. The concert programme included selected works from this extensive collection and instrumental music preserved in Polish organ tablatures – by Jan of Lublin, Gda?sk, Oliwska and Warsaw from the 16th and 17th centuries.
