The Kromer Festival Biecz Culture of the First Republic of Poland will be held under the motto Covenant, which symbolically refers to what unites – in contrast to the times in which divisions are openly drawn. The starting point for these reflections will be the historic Polish-Lithuanian alliance, sealed by the Act of the Union of Lublin, which has lasted for more than two centuries. This was a period not only of the development of the Republic, but also of extraordinary changes in music, to which the KFB pays tribute every year on the last weekend of July. In this way, the Festival will show the evolution of music and the many bridges that show the Polish and European heritage as a continuum, testifying to the vitality and respect for the past, but telling it in a language that is contemporary and rich in expression.
Anna Wiktoria Swoboda – Baroque lute
Already at the age of seven he was hailed as a child prodigy. No wonder – Silvius Leopold Weiss had no equal in playing the lute. Thanks to his skills, he quickly became a favourite with the Polish nobility: he accompanied Alexander Sobieski on his journey to Rome, played and composed at the court of Maria Kazimiera, and finally – as a prominent musician in the court ensemble – settled at the court of Augustus II the Strong. An unparalleled improviser, composer of subtle, inspired music, master of the basso continuo – all these qualities, as well as his contact with the greatest composers of the era, make him an icon and star of the 18th century.
