The concert “Małe tęsknoty” (Small Longings), dedicated to the memory and work of the outstanding Polish composer Wojciech Trzciński, closed this year’s 62nd National Polish Song Festival.
Wojciech Trzciński was the co-founder of the Fryderyk music award, presented by the Polish phonographic industry, and the founder of the independent art center Fabryka Trzciny. He was awarded the Polityka Passport and the Kisiel Award for his work. On December 19, 2024, he was honored with the Gloria Artis Medal for Merit to Culture, presented to him by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Hanna Wróblewska. He was also the artistic director of festivals in Opole and Sopot.
Famous musicians paid tribute to the artist, including Grzegorz Turnau, Kuba Badach, Natalia Przybysz, Natalia Szroeder, Rubens, Mitch&Mitch, Ania Karwan, Katarzyna Cerekwicka, Roxie Węgiel, Jan Młynarski, Natalia Kukulska, Kasia Moś, Sławek Uniatowski, and Katarzyna Groniec.
Kuba Badach and Grzegorz Turnau opened the event with Krystyna Prońko’s song Małe Tęsknoty (Little Longings). This concert marked the debut of Grażyna Torbicka as the host of the Opole festival and of Tomasz Raczek. They were accompanied on stage by Stanisław Trzciński, the son of the deceased and the originator of the concert.
Krystyna Prońko and Jan Borysewicz performed W jakim obcym domu (In What Strange House) that evening, and Kasia Cerekwicka performed W cieniu dobrego drzewa (In the Shadow of a Good Tree). Next was Odpływają kawiarenki (The Cafés Are Floating Away), which Trzciński gave to Irena Jarocka to sing. It was performed by Natalia Przybysz and Jan Młynarski.
After their performance, Marek Sierocki, Aleksandra Kisielewska-Trzcińska, and Kasia Cerekwicka were invited on stage to present the widow with a lifetime achievement award for the late Wojciech Trzciński. In her moving speech, Aleksandra Kisielewska-Trzcińska revealed that the concert was the deceased’s greatest unfulfilled dream. She also revealed that June 15, 2025, is a special anniversary for her and her family. On that day, exactly 40 years ago, she and Wojciech Trzciński decided to walk through life together.
Next, Edyta Geppert appeared on stage and sang the song Lepiej, czyli horyzont 2000 (Better, or Horizon 2000). Wanda Kwietniewska and her famous band performed the energetic Nie będę Julią (I Won’t Be Julia), while Natalia Kukulska sang Jaka jesteś jeszcze nie wiem (I Don’t Know What You’re Like Yet) by Anna Jantar. Anna Karwan sang Biały wiersz od ciebie (A White Poem from You), and Roxie Węgiel performed Staruszek świat (Old Man World).
One of the surprises of the concert was the performance of the 16-member Mitch & Mitch group, which presented the song Dziewczyna z konwaliami (Girl with Lilies of the Valley). The original Alibabka, Ewa Dębicka-Brzozowska, also appeared and performed Zagrajmy w kości jeszcze raz (Let’s Play Dice Again) with the orchestra. Mitch & Mitch also performed Pieśń ciszy (Song of Silence). Ewa Bem, Kuba Badach, and Sławek Uniatowski sang songs from the repertoire created by Trzciński for Krzysztof Krawczyk. Kukulska followed them with a song written for Halina Frąckowiak, Do końca świata (Until the End of the World). Halina Frąckowiak sang Dancing Queen, and Natalia Szroeder sang By coś zostało z tych dni (So That Something Remains of These Days).
The hosts reminisced about 1980, and Krystyna Prońko performed the groundbreaking Psalm of Those Standing in Line, a song that still sends shivers down the spine. Kolęda o świcie (Christmas Carol at Dawn) was also performed. Henryka Dębicka-Brzozowska, Urszula Dudziak, and artists selected by Zdzisława Sośnicka to present her and Trzciński’s songs also performed: Ania Karwan, Kasia Cerekwicka, and Kasia Moś. That evening, we also heard Katarzyna Groniec and her version of Dokąd przed nią uciekasz (Where Are You Running From Her) and Andrzej Rybiński with Rubens, who presented Idzie na deszcz (She’s Going Out in the Rain) to the audience.
Finally, Magda Umer performed the song O niebieskim pachnącym groszku (About Blue Fragrant Peas), which she still considers Trzciński’s masterpiece. She was followed by Natalia Szroeder with the song Pożegnanie o świcie (Farewell at Dawn). The concert was closed by Krystyna Prońko and Urszula Dudziak, who sang Tam gdzie wieje lekki wiatr (Where the Light Wind Blows) with Adam Sztaba accompanying them on the piano.
Concert was directed by Bolesław Pawica and Marcin Kołaczkowski.
