Alkimja – an album by Justyna Steczkowska released in 2002.
The album is subtitled Sephardic and Ashkenazic traditional music and refers to Jewish culture. It contains songs sung in Hebrew, Aramaic and in Ladino and Yiddish. The album is in fact a sound recording of the show Alkimja, which Justyna Steczkowska together with a group of artists (mimes, jugglers and ballet performers) has occasionally staged (e.g. as part of the Dialogue of Four Cultures Festival or Przegląd Piosenki Aktorskiej). The album achieved the status of a golden record. The originator of this project was Ewa Gil-Kołakowska, the translations into Polish were done by Roman Kołakowski, and the musical arrangement was done by Mateusz Pospieszalski. The album was recorded in Justyna Steczkowska’s studio. The Alkimja album was awarded the 2002 Fryderyk in the Album of the Year – Ethno/Folk category.
The concert is a television recording of the Alkimja performance staged on the theatre stage as part of the Dialogue of Four Cultures Festival, which took place in 2003 in Łódź.
