WARSAW 23.05.2026
Wiesław Ochman – a legend of the opera world, a master of anecdotes and a multi-talented artist – was the star of Saturday evening’s programme on TVP2. In the programme *Great Fame Is a Joke – A Tribute to Wiesław Ochman*, viewers were treated not only to musical performances and memories from his illustrious career, but also to a lesser-known side of the famous tenor. Among those appearing on stage were Krystian Ochman, Justyna Steczkowska, Eleni and Bohdan Łazuka. The evening was hosted by Filip Jaślar from the MoCarta Group.
Wiesław Ochman is one of the most important figures on the Polish opera scene. Over the years, he has delighted music lovers with performances at New York’s Metropolitan Opera, Milan’s La Scala and Vienna’s Staatsoper. Although his talent is admired around the world, the singer himself is renowned for his remarkable ability to keep a sense of perspective on his own achievements.
The organisers of this tribute concert have decided to portray the artist not only as an outstanding tenor, but also as a man with a remarkable sense of perspective and a unique sense of humour. The programme will feature plenty of amusing anecdotes, memories and stories from the master’s stage career; as he himself admits, he sometimes enjoys stepping into the role of a stand-up comedian.
During the evening, opera briefly merged with popular music and poetic humour. The programme featured performances by: Wiesław Ochman, Krystian Ochman, Justyna Steczkowska, Eleni, Andrzej Poniedzielski, Grażyna Brodzińska, Bohdan Łazuka, Adam Zdunikowski, Renata Dobosz, Ewa Warta-Śmietana, Jakub Milewski, Daria Sawczuk and Katarzyna Bocheńska.
